RYA Yachtmaster Ocean
This course covers the specialist skills of navigating and skippering a vessel on an extended passage out of sight of land, and unravels the mysteries of astro navigation, using a sextant, ocean passage making, ocean currents, worldwide meteorology and electronic navigation aids.
A night school class on Wednesday evening each week (1915 hours to 2145 hours) for 24 weeks during the winter months, making a total of 60 hours of classes. However, you will need to do some homework as well!
If student enrolment numbers are low we may run this course intensively over a number of weekends, at a slightly increased cost.
Some sea-going experience is desirable.
Navigation to Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore standard is a sensible pre-requisite for this course.
Successful students will be issued with an RYA ‘Yachtmaster Ocean Shorebased Course Completion Certificate’.
In addition to the course fee an additional amount is payable for RYA course assessment pack. You will also need chart plotting instruments which will be available for you to buy at the start of the course.
