Our Team of Instructors
All of our instructors have considerable experience in their subject, and are looking forward to your company over the winter months. You may be interested to know a little more about them:
Tony Dawson holds the Yachtmaster Certificate and has been teaching the Day Skipper course since 2002. He is an enthusiastic dinghy sailor and enjoys cruising on the South Coast and in Europe.
Mike Sisley began his sailing by racing dinghies and now holds the Yachtmaster Certificate. A member of an offshore racing team drawn from Trent Sea Training graduates, Mike is a veteran of 2 Fastnet race campaigns and is a keen exponent of practical training to pass on his skills and experience.
Nigel Thorpe has taught all the main shore based courses in his time, including the VHF/SRC courses. He holds not only a Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate but also a Yachtmaster Instructor Certificate. This allows him to run all levels of the RYA practical syllabus. He started skippering cruising yachts in his teens, and regularly clocks up a significant number of sea miles each year.
Jayne Moore, who runs our First Aid courses, has been teaching first aid to sailors for several years and is a GP by profession.
Rob Levy runs the Diesel Engine course. He repairs engines for his day job as well! Most weekends he is to be found racing fast catamarans on inland waters.
Liz Simons. Liz started sailing dinghies in 2004 with her children and then moved onto yachts. Since then she has progressed through the RYA Yachtmaster Scheme and in 2010 sailed across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans achieving the Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate of Competence. Liz enjoys cruising holidays with her family and racing with ex-TST colleagues. She has now completed several Fastnet campaigns.
