VHF Short Range Certificate Course

The VHF radio remains one of the most effective methods that the small craft skipper has to call for assistance. This course provides all the theoretical knowledge and procedures to operate a VHF radio. Regular VHF radio operators need a licence called the Short Range Certificate to operate a VHF radio.

Course dates.

Course type:
Is offered as a course of two days over one weekend, 2pm to 6pm each day

Pre course experience:
some sea going experience is desirable

Pre course knowledge:
none required

Outcome:
successful students will be able to apply to the RYA for a Short Range Certificate

Equipment:
An advance study pack will be sent out to students in the week beforehand, following your enrolment on the course.

Course Fee : £55 plus a certificate documentation fee of £25 payable to the RYA

Types of VHF communication, VHF Radios, Using digital selective calling, Phonetic alphabet, Procedures, Using the Controls, Other Radio safety aids, Global Distress and Safety System.
