Past Students
We like to keep in touch with past students. We meet with tutors and current students on the first Wednesday of each month at Navigation Inn in Breaston near Trent College.
Here's what some of them have been up to since graduating:
Pam & John Clarke
After completing their Coastal Skipper and enjoying hands-on sailing courses in The Solent with TST Pam & John purchased Kaimin, an Amel 53' sailing yacht and set off in 2007 to circumnavigate with the Blue Water Rally. They completed their round the world trip in June 2009 when they passed through the Suez Canal and returned to their home port in the Med.
Mike Pearce
Mike started yacht sailing with TST in 2000. After completing his Coastal Skipper practical and Ocean Theory, plus VHF, First Aid, Radar and Diesel Engine courses, Mike bought a 42' Moody
in Wisconsin, USA in 2006. He sailed her - mainly single-handed - 5,600 miles to Grenada in the Caribbean, taking 10 months to do the trip. Mike comments: "There is no way I would have bought Gypsy Dancer or even thought about this trip if I hadn't had the confidence, skills and knowledge learned on Trent Sea Training courses. Compared to many other cruising sailors I feel very well trained!" In 2007 and 2008 Mike skippered a Baltic 38 racing yacht in Dartmouth Regatta. Mike's cruising web site: www.gypsydancer.co.uk.
Janet Pilkington
Janet completed her Ocean theory course in 2004 and has been looking for a boat suitable for her cruising plans ever since! To tide her over she has bought 'Exocet' a 38' X boat with which she's racing on the UK south coast and Fastnet Race. The yacht is skippered and mainly crewed by past TST students!
Jacky Neild
After completing her Day & Coastal Skipper courses, plus Ocean Theory
Jacky gained more experience of blue water sailing as crew on a 1500 mile voyage from The Azores to UK. Since then Jacky has sailed in SW UK, Ireland, Scotland and the Med. Jacky co-skippering a 2-handed 42' yacht from Miami to Peurto Rico (1,100 miles) then explored the Eastern Caribbean over two seasons (2,500 miles). Jacky is now the proud owner of 'Blythe Spirit' a Sadler 32 based in Dartmouth.
